Data & API

Build with the municipal decision graph.

Bring local meetings, agenda items, documents, people, votes, and change events into your product or internal workflow. Evaluate the records and coverage, then choose Enterprise API access or licensed daily delivery.

API access and bulk delivery are paid, agreement-based products. Public browsing and search on LocalGovIndex are free.

Delivery

Choose how your team works with the records

Availability is distinct from the scope of a license. Geography, history, usage, and downstream rights are agreed for each engagement.

Available · Enterprise API

Search, retrieve, and stay current

Use an issued API key to work with structured records, extracted text, source relationships, and supported change events.

  • Stable public identifiers for record references
  • Cursor-based pagination for supported lists
  • Ordered change events for downstream synchronization
  • Documented endpoints and license-specific limits

Available · Licensed Daily Feed

Receive a starting set and daily drops

Use gzipped NDJSON files delivered to a storage bucket, with a manifest and verification script. Define the sources, fields, history, and update scope before relying on the feed.

  • Structured records and their relationships
  • Daily additions and changes within the agreed scope
  • Late updates and soft-delete semantics
  • Delivery and licensing reviewed separately from API access

Evaluate Before Integrating

Inspect coverage, evidence, and the data contract

A national count does not answer whether your specific places, fields, and historical window are covered.

Coverage

Check the places that matter

Review indexed jurisdictions and then confirm record types, historical depth, extraction, and refresh timing for the proposed cohort.

Real Record

Follow one decision to its sources

Inspect a Chicago zoning action, the supporting vote report, and the research questions that remain after the recorded decision.

Documentation

Review the actual interface

Use the published API overview and documentation to inspect authentication, endpoint behavior, identifiers, pagination, and change handling.

Availability

Current access and future delivery are different choices

Commercial Use

Agree on what the data will power

Internal research, product integration, derived publication, and raw redistribution have different requirements.

Define the intended use

  • Internal tools or a customer-facing product
  • Selected geographies, record types, history, and cadence
  • Source documents, derived fields, retention, and attribution
  • Expected volume, support, and review requirements

Redistribution and resale require a separate written agreement. A key or feed subscription alone does not grant those rights.

AI use with clear boundaries

Retrieval, grounding, embeddings, indexing, and internal evaluation can be discussed under the applicable agreement.

Training generative or general-purpose models is not licensed.

Source material and derived summaries remain distinguishable. Verify consequential conclusions against the originating record.
